How often you change your furnace filter will depend on the type of filter used, and how to use the oven. Select the type of filter to use the list below to find out what you should do.
Disposable Filters – Disposable filters should be changed every 6 to 8 weeks. Many people try to clean the filters, but are not actually being cleaned and can be even less efficient. Disposable filters are not very effective and provide only a basic amount of clean air. If you run the furnace fan continuously, cleaning should be done every 3 to 4 weeks.
Washable Filters – Washable filters should be cleaned every 6 to 8 weeks for normal use. If you run the furnace fan continuously, wash filters every 3 to 4 weeks. When cleaning the filter, be sure to inspect for wear.
Hammock – Hammock filters are not to be washed and should be replaced every 8 to 10 weeks. When you purchase a replacement hammock filter may be somewhat 'larger than the metal is attached. Install the filter on the table, and then cut the excess.
Electrostatic filter – electrostatic air cleaning must be cleaned every month. To clean the vacuum before nylon media and then rinsed with water filter. Be sure to increase the filter in the opposite direction of airflow. Electrostatic air cleaning is very difficult to clean the filter so that the older, more often still clean. When cleaning inspect for damage and wear.
Electronic Air Cleaner (EAC) – The most important thing to remember electronic air cleaners to keep them clean. EACS are very effective until the cells get dirty and then lose much of their effectiveness. When cleaning the cells be careful not to break any of the fine wires that run along the outside of cells. If one of these cables break, the current cell is broken and not working. Do not forget to clean the small prescreens too.
Large fluted filter media – This is the easiest to clean the filter. All you have to do is replace the media cartridge half. Provide that the cartridge is replaced, while you have heating and cooling annual maintenance performed.
